J&H Coffee is a spacious, two-floor café nestled in Birmingham’s Chinatown that’s quickly found its footing among local coffee enthusiasts. The atmosphere strikes a balance between laid-back and purposeful — it’s the kind of place where you can linger over a morning coffee while plugging into your laptop, then unwind with a sweet treat later in the day. With plenty of power outlets and comfortable seating by large windows, it naturally attracts students, remote workers, and anyone looking to take a casual pause amid busy city life.

The coffee here is clearly the draw. Folks visiting repeatedly mention the care taken in each cup, highlighting the consistency and quality of the beans used. Whether you’re after a straightforward classic or something iced to beat the summer heat, the baristas aim to get every detail just right. There’s an added flair for pastries too — the competition-level cakes and tarts, like the coffee and walnut cake or tarte tatin, feel thoughtfully prepared, making J&H a good stop for pairing your drink with something a little special.

Besides caffeine, the menu presents a surprisingly broad range of options from matcha lattes to rare floral teas, which gives it a subtle edge for those looking to branch out beyond the usual café list. On warmer days, the iced coffee and pistachio kulfi gelato provide refreshing alternatives that fit nicely with the chill, modern vibe of the space.

One noteworthy aspect is J&H’s pet-friendly approach — visitors often bring dogs along, adding a gentle liveliness without overwhelming the calm ambiance. This inclusive angle, coupled with the decor that mixes cozy touches with an inviting open layout, means it’s a comfortable environment for both work and social catch-ups.

If you’re wandering through Bromsgrove Street and want a spot to focus, chat, or try something a bit beyond your regular coffee shop fare, J&H Coffee offers a reliable, thoughtfully curated experience. It’s especially suited to locals who appreciate a café that prioritizes quality, space to breathe, and a gentle buzz that doesn’t feel forced.

I truly believe they use high-quality coffee beans. Every time we visit, they prepare our coffees with great care, and the taste is always consistently excellent. I think this might be my favourite coffee spot at the moment! The cheesecake was incredibly delicious and fresh. It’s a little bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

The cozy ambiance, enhanced by stunning decor and inviting vibes, makes it perfect for both work and daily leisure. The strawberry matcha is an absolute standout, paired beautifully with their exquisite desserts. What sets this spot apart is the library upstairs—a haven for book lovers, adding an extra touch of charm. It’s truly refreshing to see unique and delightful spaces like this emerging in Birmingham!

Tried their pistachio Basque cheesecake, which has a thick layer of pistachio cream and some pistachio crumbs on top. The cheesecake base itself isn’t just a standard cheesecake flavour — it’s full of pistachio. My partner felt the pistachio flavour could be stronger, but I think they’ve nailed it for something genuinely labelled as a pistachio cheesecake. The café is cosy and spread over two floors, with the second floor offering more seats and different seating options. It was quite busy even on a year end weekday. We didn’t try the coffee, but I’d definitely recommend coming for the homemade cakes — almost everyone was ordering one, if not more.

It is really hot recently. So I go here for the air conditioning with my dog. It is pet friendly cafe. Ambience: The space inside the café is incredibly spacious and comfortable. Most of the seats come with power outlets, making it a perfect spot for working or studying alone! I picked a window seat — great for some casual people watching during breaks, hehe. Highly Recommended Must-Tries: 1⃣ Basque Cheesecake – 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely amazing — rich, smooth, and melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Totally worth coming back for again and again! 2⃣ Matcha Mochi Pretzel Bun – A must-try for matcha lovers! The outer crust has a slight chew, while the mochi filling is soft and gooey. Every bite is pure happiness! Coffee Experience: I ordered an Oat Flat White, and they even let you choose the flavor profile of the beans! If you enjoy fruity acidity, try the other option — but I went for the nutty and chocolaty one, which was totally my kind of flavor. Super satisfying!

Absolutely top experience for the best coffee possible. Staff is amazing, some maybe less knowledgeable, but I bet in training. As a coffee traveller this place is at least Top 5 world wide for coffee experience .

The cafe is located in a very calm and aesthetically pleasing spot, surrounded by lush greenery and soft ambient lighting, creating a relaxing atmosphere. It has cozy seating arrangements, including comfortable sofas and individual worktables, making it ideal for both working and casual chatting. I would definitely recommend trying their signature chai latte, which is perfectly spiced and served with a side of comforting ambiance.

One of the best cafes in Birmingham. I got a hot matcha latte, my sister a fruit ice tea, my other sister a a blush matcha and a my boyfriend a pot of white tea. Everything was very tasty I think the group favourite is the blush matcha. We don’t recommend the fruit ice tea as there’s not much flavours to experience (we ordered the mango). However you can tell the matcha is of some quality and so is the white tea. I definitely recommend to come here and it’s a great place for studying or reading. With the pot of tea you also are allowed one refill of water(obviously free of charge). The place is so open and calming. A very enjoyable experience. They even have a piano!!!
